Wood versus acrylic on the P3
How to choose between an engraved wood sign and an edge-lit acrylic panel for a door, a desk, or a gift.
Wood takes a dark engraved mark and stays a wooden object. Acrylic can be cut cleanly and, with a hidden LED, the engraving becomes the light.
The xTool P3 bed is 915 by 458 mm. A door sign fits. A full sheet of plywood the size of a table does not. Wood cutting stops at 20 mm. Transparent acrylic cutting stops at 25 mm. The cutting boards on this site are engraved, not cut, because an 18 mm maple board is a board, not a puzzle piece.
Coated tumblers are a rotary job. The CO2 tube marks the coating. It does not engrave bare stainless, and this shop does not assume the optional infrared module is on the machine. PVC is on xTool's broad material list and is refused here. Chlorine gas is not a shop smell we are willing to ventilate.
Send a name, a date, or a simple line drawing. A photograph usually needs to be redrawn, which is a design job rather than a straight engraving.
